Our introductory session is open to all ages and abilities. Whether you have a physical, cognitive, or developmental disability, or are recovering from injury or illness, we invite you to discover the joy and freedom of rowing—no experience necessary.

Adaptive Team Outings

Join a welcoming community for weekly rowing adventures on Rockland Lake. Our adaptive teams offer safe, supportive, and fun experiences for everyone. For those who can sit unsupported, our 8-seat rowing barge is the perfect place to start. Volunteers who assist during sessions receive free learn-to-row coaching as a thank you.

Rockland’s Compliance Forms

  • Waiver for Liability and Insurance: Required for all adaptive rowers.

  • Certificate of Competence for Swimming: Required for all participants.

USRowing Membership and Waiver

  • Not required for:

    • Intro-to-Row participants

    • Learn-to-Row participants

    • Adult Recreational rowers

  • USRowing Basic membership required ($9.75 admin fee):

    • Adaptive team rowers (required for those participating in regattas or certain team activities)

  • Club code: HRV4T

Safety

All adaptive rowers are expected to review and understand safety protocols.

Location

Practices are held at Rockland Lake State Park—South Complex, Rowing Center (access from lot #4).
Note: A daily park entrance fee may apply for those without an Empire Pass.

RRA is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit and donations are fully tax deductible to the extent of the law.  We will be happy to provide receipts for donations. Thank you for your support!

Private Adaptive Lessons

Benefit from one-on-one coaching tailored to your needs. Our adaptive program provides private lessons at no cost for wheelchair athletes and others seeking individualized instruction. With support from our volunteers and coaching staff, you’ll build skills and confidence in a positive environment.

How to Register for Adaptive Rowing

  • Register and pay for your chosen program (most adaptive sessions are free!)

  • Apply for financial aid (if needed)

  • Complete all compliance forms

  • Obtain USRowing membership (if required—see below)

  • Review safety and park entrance information below
